No Fans in Burma/Myanmar

Recently, I came in contact with Mr. Yerra Naidu who had spent his childhood in Burma. While having a conversation with him, I could recall old Tamil Classic movies which connects to Burma (Shivaji Ganeshan, NTR and so on). Many from South India especially Telugu and Tamil speaking had fed to Burma on employment and returned during 1970's or so after the war or during emergency declared in 1975. Many returned with Burma Teak wood and  got big entrance  doors well carved with Burma Teak and furniture made out of it.

Well, Mr. Yerra Naidu who is now on a self imposed assignment of teaching Telugu through Burmese language to all the Telugu or Andhra native settlers in Burma. Now there are evening schools started in various places and many young generations are showing interest to learn their mother tongue!!!

During our conversation, he narrated that in Burma people (Burma native and non native) don't use a ceiling fan or table fan even in peak summer. Sparing few affordable people who have got AC's fixed, fans are not used or switched on. Yes they use mosquito nets (without which they don't sleep) and close all the doors and windows before sleeping. On probing , he said that long ago a woman after washing her hair sat under the ceiling fan for drying her hair and passed away. So people fear of sleeping under the ceiling fan.  This story was told to him long ago and during his recent visit to Burma, he rechecked and re confirmed about it,. The story has not faded off with the passage of time but the same story being repeated and retold. May be with few added adjectives or so.

Well, some of his friends and relatives visited him in India and stayed in his house, as he switched on the fan, they moved far away, he said this is Indian fan and not Burma fan!!!

Strange! Very strange!!! If anyone knows the exact reason kindly post.
